With left hand on the Bible, right hand raised and surrounded by family and supporters, Marion County elected officials took the oath of office Monday.
Chancellor Rhea Sheldon swore in 15 officials during the ceremony held in the 10th Chancery District courtroom at the courthouse.
Sheldon encouraged their families to continue to support them as they carry out their duties for the next four years.
“They’re going to have to make some tough decisions. There are going to be some people who get unhappy with their decisions,” she said. “And I just want y’all to keep them in your prayers every day that they do important business every day and they need your support during that time.”
The ceremony was bookended by prayers: Dudley Williamson led one to open it, and Calvin Newsom, the Beat 5 supervisor, closed it with another one.
Those being sworn in included District Attorney Hal Kittrell, Chancery Clerk Elisha Moree, Circuit Clerk Janette Nolan, Coroner Jessie Graham, District 1 Constable Krae Morgan, District 2 Constable Robbie Gill, District 1 Justice Court Judge Brandon Rowell, District 2 Justice Court Judge Gwen Broom, Sheriff Berkley Hall, Beat 1 Supervisor Blue Green, Beat 2 Supervisor John Moree, Beat 3 Supervisor Tony Morgan, Beat 4 Supervisor Tater Rowell, Beat 5 Supervisor Calvin Newsom and Tax Assessor/Collector Teresa Terrell.
They officially begin their terms at midnight Tuesday as the New Year begins.
