A Red Cross shelter at New Life Fellowship Church on Eagle Day Avenue is up and running and ready to assist flood victims.
According to Angela McLaughlin with the Red Cross, currently one person is staying at the shelter, but they have been feeding people affected by flood.
On Sunday the Pearl River crested at 25.6 feet, causing backwater flooding in areas near the river throughout Marion County.
While the water has started to recede, as of 2:15 p.m. the river was still at 25.29 feet.
McLaughlin said they are offering meals three times a day and also cleaning supplies to help victims to be able to clean up their homes once the water has receded.
