What started out as a contained fire to a bedroom and a closet on New Year’s Day turned into a home completely destroyed home when the flames rekindled the following morning.
Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Clyde Marshall said he received a phone call informing him his home at 1610 Mississippi 13 S. was on fire. By the time he arrived the South Marion Volunteer Fire Department was already on scene.
A few hours later, around 5 a.m. Thursday morning, the fire rekindled and destroyed the rest of the home.
While Marshall was standing outside the home Thursday morning, he said it was an old home that had been remodeled but it was insured. He lost everything. However, he had nothing but good things to say about the fire department.
“South Marion Fire Department did a good job,” he said.
Civil Defense Manager Aaron Greer said the fire is under investigation.
