A woman is dead and a man was injured after being shot near Foxworth late Friday in what investigators say appears to have been a domestic dispute.
Tamaneka Murree Alexander, 30, of Foxworth, died Friday night as a result of her injuries, Marion County Sheriff Berkley Hall said in a news release Monday.
Handy Anthony Willis Jr., 48, also of Foxworth, is in stable condition at Forrest General Hospital, the sheriff said.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting at a residence at 7 Water Valley Road around 11 p.m.
“When deputies arrived, they found an unresponsive male outside the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound and an unresponsive female inside the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound,” Capt. Pete Williams said. “The male was transported by AAA Ambulance Service and the female by helicopter to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, where she passed away.”
“I appears to be a domestic situation,” Williams said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit has been called on to assist with the probe.
