Members of the Marion County School Board were honored Feb. 13 in celebration of National School Board Member month.
The meeting was held at West Marion High School where school board members and everyone else were treated to cakes and brownies made by the culinary art class at the Carl Loftin Career and Technology Center. February also focuses on technical education as well.
Members from the different technical classes presented the board members gifts representing each of the classes before the meeting started. Superintendent Wendy Bracey also presented each board member with a certificate.
Also, Bracey recommended and the board approved for all of the principals in the county district to remain the same for the 2020-2021 school year.
Several resignations were approved including from West Marion High Dixie Cripps as English teacher, Amanda Russell as ELA teacher and assistant softball coach and Holly Smith as a teacher’s assistant. From West Marion Elementary Jamie Jones and from West Marion Primary Kathy Grant as a teacher’s assistant and Sarah Stogner and Lesha Hall as teachers.
From East Marion High School, Kevin Jackson as head football coach and social studies teacher and history teacher Marsha McNail’s resignations were approved and the resignation of teacher Carley Haynes from the district was approved. Jackson is retiring.
The board approved the hires of Eric Lewis for a computer technician, Maria Green for child nutrition cafeteria and Janet Lewis as a bus driver.
The board also approved out of state travel for the following:
• East Marion High for fast-pitch softball at Ben’s Ford High School in Bogalusa April 3;
• West Marion Primary to Global Wildlife Foundation in Folsom April 9;
• East Marion band, dance and cheer to participate in the Mardi Gras parades in Mandeville on Feb. 14, Bogalusa on Feb. 22 and the Krewe of Dionysus in Slidell Feb. 16.
Under changes to 16th Section land, the board approved:
• Timber sale in Section 16-2N-17E;
• Cancellation of lease of Elizabeth Simmons OTH 85.72 acres in Section 16-3-18 due to death;
• Cancellation of lease of L.E. and Eva Daniels COM 5 acres in Section 16-3-18 due to death;
• Lease Assignment of Carol Broom OTH 1.68 acres in Section 16-5-17 to Thomas and Dolly Shows;
• Lease of Elizabeth Simmons/EBS Properties LLC OTH 85.72 acres in Section 13-3-18;
• Ivan Daniels and Zelmarion D. Ready COM 5 acres in Section 16-3-18.
