The Wallace family’s property off Mississippi 44, which contains two homes, has been selected as the December Yard of the Month.
The first home is owned by Thomas L. and Janette Wallace and has clean architecture and simple yet elegant landscaping. Janette said she was pleasantly surprised to be selected, especially since she was in garden club for 10 years and never got it.
“It’s an honor for my home to be chosen,” she said.
While she works five days a week, Janette said she enjoys planting things in her yard like annuals. Her favorite part of her landscaping is the courtyard because it has a fountain that she finds peaceful.
Janette said she likes that it’s close to town but still remote enough to have some peace and quiet.
The second home belongs to Clayton and Tonya Farmer, who is the Wallaces’ daughter. Their house is both rustic and modern and has four small trees as the main feature in the front yard. But the back porch is Tonya’s favorite aspect.
On the back porch there’s a wind chime that is in memory of the Farmers’ daughter, Anna Grace, who died 16 years ago and is a twin of their son Wallace.
Teresa Dyess of the Pine Needle Garden Club presented the award.
