Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Erma J. Dunaway, 93, of Foxworth, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 19. Burial followed in Morgantown Cemetery. Pastor Jerron Carney and Rev. Clyde Clark officiated at the services. Joe Bracey and Justin Conway provided special music. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
She was born and raised in Marion County. She was the oldest living member of Woodlawn Church in Columbia. She loved visits from her family and she loved looking out the front door from her recliner.
She was preceded in death by husband, J.W. "Nig" Dunaway; parents, Rev. William and Johnnie Hammond; six sons, James Earl Dixon, William Lee Dixon, Randy Wesley Dixon, Donnie Ray Dixon, Tommy Dunaway Sr. and Phillip Dunaway; four sisters, Rose Lee Morgan, Maxine Hammond, Billy Bracey and Joyce Thornhill, and one brother, William Sonny Hammond.
Survivors include her nine grandchildren, Timothy Dixon (Melissa) and Simone Childs (Andy), both of Shreveport, La., Stacy Creel (Chris), Tommy Dunaway Jr. (Gigi) and Michael Miller (Candice), all of Columbia, Tabitha Stuckey (Todd) of Hallsville, Texas, Shane Dunaway (Shaina) of Randolph, Ryan Dunaway (Sarah) and Tammy Lynn Blackwell (Clark), both of Foxworth; 23 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Cindy Pilgram of Florence and Betty Dixon of Shreveport, La., and a very special great-niece, Kayla Bittinger of Foxworth.
Pallbearers were Rev. Stephen Binion, Joe Bracey, Bryson Dunaway, Ryan Dunaway, T.J. Dunaway and Mike Wallace.
