A 13-year-old has been charged as an adult with sexual battery of a child under 14 years of age.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested Isaiah Henderson, who is listed as 5-foot-5 and 260 pounds and has a Sumrall address, and booked him into the Marion County Jail on Sept. 18. He was released on $25,000 bond.
Investigators declined to give information on the case because it is an ongoing investigation.
The statute Henderson was charged under requires the perpetrator to be more than 24 months older than the victim. If the perpetrator is at least 13 but younger than 18, there is no set penalty and the sentence is at the discretion of the court.
According to statistics from Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center, 40 percent of sexually abused children are abused by an older or stronger child.
