Very few people get the opportunity to do what they love and get paid for it, but Jeremy Watson gets to do just that with Watson Dozer & Trackhoe Services.
The company does just about everything under the sun involving dirt and provides trustworthy and quality service. While Watson Dozer doesn’t have a big crew, the four employees love what they do and are good at it.
“We’re just ole country boys living the dream,” Watson said.
Watson is joined by Danny Breland, Sonny McKenzie and Keith Stringer. Breland has 50 years of experience working with a bulldozer, Stringer has about 30 years of experience and McKenzie can operate the dozer or the track hoe.
For new constructions such as a home, Watson Dozer clears the land, levels the ground and prepares the foundation. It also does landscaping such as adding topsoil to a lot, builds driveways and more.
“We build ponds, work on house sites, build roads; anything considered dirt work and construction we do it. We work for the public, work for commercial. We try to do it all,” Watson said.
Watson has been working in the field for more than 20 years, and Watson Dozer has been in business for a year-and-a-half.
Being able to do something he loves while being the one who calls the shots is what made Watson decide to go into business for himself.
“I wanted to be my own boss and just try it. I like working for myself and not having to answer to anybody. I like making my own decisions.”
Watson said a lot of their business comes by word of mouth, especially through social media, and Watson Dozer consistently gets work because of its attention to detail.
“I’m a perfectionist,” he said. “I want it perfect bad, every time. I like playing with dirt, and I like to make dirt look good.”
While it’s still a young business, Watson said he’d like for his company to expand while maintaining its high-quality work.
“Making the company grow is my biggest goal,” he said. “There’s some big companies out there. We’re not that big, but we stay busy five days a week. We don’t miss a day. Thank the good Lord; He has a big part in it.”
Watson said the key to remaining successful is providing clients with exactly what they’re paying for.
“We try to be honest. If you’re not it will come back to bite you in the butt. When we’re on a job we try to give the landowner what he pays for. When we’re on a job from 7 (a.m.) to 4 (p.m.), we need to be working because he needs to get his money’s worth,” he said. “That’s what gets us to the next job. We’re thankful for the work that everybody gives us.”
Watson Dozer typically works within 100 miles and does a lot of work in Louisiana and close to Alabama. The business works Monday through Friday and can be reached by phone at (601) 441-0281.
