The Marion County Board of Supervisors took steps this week in its quest to further develop the former Columbia Training School.
The demolition of the gym, laundry and mansion were previously advertised separately, but following advisement from engineer Jeff Dungan the board opted to advertise the demolition of the three buildings together to reduce the price. Dungan estimated the demolition of the three structures will cost around $60,000.
Also, a bid from E Cornell Malone Corp. to finish the roof on the former school building was approved for $124,900. The board also accepted a bid for $45,095 from R&R Sheetmetal to construct a small building to house voting machines and approved advertising for bids to fix a maintenance building roof (estimated $130,000). That leaves about $120,000 of $500,000 the Legislature gave for improvements at the BusinessPlex. Dungan suggested putting stone in the grass parking area in front of the school.
