The first meeting of the Calliopean Club for the 2019-2020 year was held at Broad Street Restaurant on Sept. 26.
Connie Hitt, president, welcomed everyone back from summer break. A special welcome went to new member, Carol May.
The thought for the day was: “God’s way will never lack God’s supplies.”
Hostesses for the day were Pat Purvis, Helen Thornton and Shelia Simon. The tables and centerpiece followed a fall theme with small cups of candy corn placed at each member's seat.
Belated birthday wishes went to those who had birthdays in the summer and also to those with September birthdays: Doris Jordan, Bet Hammond and Helen Thornton.
Norma Ward gave the devotional using 2 Corinthians 5:9. “More than anything else, I want to please him.”
She gave an example of a sloth that she and her family recently saw at the Hattiesburg Zoo. The sloth did nothing but hang upside down on a tree limb that had been placed in a climate controlled enclosure with plenty of food provided.
She asked, “What do you want more than anything else? A climate controlled, risk free, stress free, life? Or, like the apostle Paul, do you want to please Jesus?”
After the blessing, President Connie Hitt dismissed everyone to enjoy the buffet lunch.
Following lunch, Connie Hitt introduced Doris Jordan, first vice-president, who presented the yearbook for the 2019-2020 year.
Doris reviewed the yearbook and pointed out the outstanding programs planned for the upcoming year.
Following a short business meeting, the meeting was adjourned by reading the Club Collect.
Members present were Jimmie 'D Allen, Lela Buckley, Anna Darby, Sue Fortenberry, Connie Hitt, Doris Jordan, Nora Lott, Linda Martin, Carol May, Debby Ostheimer, Cheryl Rankin, Janet Rayborn, Shelia Simon, Lynn Stultz, Helen Thornton, Judy Tolar, Norma Ward and Wanda Westmoreland.
