The Columbia Elementary School gym turned into a giant campground Monday.
Students played games, made s’mores and enjoyed the day.
“This was an event for students who showed growth on benchmark assessments from winter to spring,” Angela Johnson, a fifth-grade teacher said. “The CES Campout Party was for students in third, fourth and fifth grades. We had 315 students show growth of one level or more in math, reading or science.”
CES not only stands for Columbia Elementary School, but in this case, Celebrating our Excelling Students, according to Johnson.
“The faculty and staff planned activities for the students along with many parent volunteers,” she said. “The activities included making s’mores, jump rope, parachute games and a hula hoop contest. The campout was done during their recess and activity periods, so no instructional time was used. Our PTA and teachers provided the refreshments.”
