Friendship Missionary Baptist Church is offering a transportation service.
They currently have six vehicles in use, each is handicapped, wheelchair accessible and can handle special needs.
As part of National Transportation Day, the church was offering free rides from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Pastor David Daniels said one of the things he wants to see is for those in the community to go to work. Daniels said he had a vision of starting the transport and helping people get to work.
The transport company is affiliated with Southern Connect, which is part of the Mississippi Department of Transportation as part of the public transit offered in the state.
Latoria Daniels, the daughter of Pastor Daniels, said they offer transportation even in the evenings for those who do not like to drive at night.
The service provides travel to doctor appointments, dialysis appointments, grocery store trips, rides to and from work, to and from school and can be locally or out of town.
Rates are hourly with a lower rate within a 20 mile radius.
Pastor Daniels has been the pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for 15 years. His vision of reaching out into the community also includes an economic building. The building will be to provide activities for the youth and senior citizens. The church is hoping to break ground on the building next month.
