At the Columbia School District Meeting last Thursday the school board voted to renew a 3-mill note for anticipating repairs and additions to the athletic facility.
The board is seeking bids on a 20-year note for up to $3 million, Superintendent Jason Harris said in an email Monday. The current note that is set to expire soon is at 4% interest. Harris said they believe they will be able to get a new note for nearly half of that interest rate.
It was announced at the meeting as the second nine-week period began this past Monday that nearly 120 students will be joining the traditional in person learning. These students spent the first nine weeks attending school using either packets or virtual learning.
The board approved the establishment of a Junior Beta Club at Columbia Elementary School.
A total of nine fundraisers were approved.
Columbia Primary School was authorized to accept a donation of $500 from Woodmen of the World to be used for positive incentives.
The Columbia High School boys’ basketball team receive approval to travel out-of-state to Baton Rouge Dec. 28-30 to attend and participate in a tournament.
Personnel matters include approval of resignations from:
- Acquinetta Myers, child nutrition program worker, effective Aug. 25;
- Eddie Hampton, mourning route bus driver, effective Sept. 10;
- Christopher Davis, district technician, effective Oct. 5.
New hires approved include:
- Laken Copeland, Columbia Primary and Elementary schools’ nurse, effective Oct. 14;
- John Lindem, substitute teacher, effective Sept. 18.
The board approved administrative leave pay for employees on Sept. 15, due to the threat of Hurricane Sally.
