Two of Columbia city schools received donations from the ExxonMobil Foundation that were approved last Thursday night at the Columbia School Board meeting.
The donations were made due to volunteer work of Edward Hough and Gerald Creel. Columbia High received a $1,000 donation, and Columbia Primary received a $500 donation. The money will be used for positive reinforcement incentives.
The board approved a $250 Mississippi Power grant on behalf of Columbia Elementary fourth-grade teacher Danielle Whittington.
Also approved were acceptance of schoolwide and teacher mini grants from the Columbia Educational Foundation Inc., including:
- Columbia Elementary “Clean Hair, Clean Hands;” $1,000 schoolwide;
- Columbia Elementary “Writing Right Around the Corner;” $500 for Danielle Whittington;
- Columbia Primary “EBooks for the Library;” $1,000 schoolwide;
- Columbia Primary “World Book Online;” $500 for Stephanie Stringer;
- Columbia Primary “Sensational STEM;” Elizabeth Morris.
The cost for the adult breakfast has increased from $2 to $2.25.
Superintendent Jason Harris requested the first reading and approval of the revisions made to the job description of the head mechanic with the second reading waived and the first reading of the job description of the new distance learning liaison.
The following resignations were approved:
- Rachel Robbins, child nutrition worker;
- Jourdan Bullock, Columbia Elementary and Columbia Primary schools nurse;
- Tim Carter, part-time chief operations officer.
The following hires were approved:
- Channing Lampton, CES special education teacher assistant;
- Lindsay Boster, school crossing guard;
- Joe Roney, JMS math interventionist
- Edward Handshaw, distance learning liaison;
- Kyle Lindsey, JMS baseball coach;
- Romar Smith, paraprofessional head soccer coach (boys and girls);
- Anthony Cook, transfer from assistant mechanic to head mechanic;
- Rhonda “Michelle” Robbin, transfer from CNP worker at CES to CNP manager at CPS.
The board also approved six fundraisers.
