Contract talks continued with Superintendent Wendy Bracey at the Marion County School Board meeting on Monday. The board took no action on the contract after meeting in executive session.
The Legislature passed a bill in 2016 requiring all school superintendents to be appointed rather than elected after the current four-year terms ends at the end of this year. The board and Bracey have already discussed her staying on as appointed.
Bracey along with the administrators at the schools presented the breakdown of the scores each school received from the state this year. On a whole the district received a B.
The following resignations were approved.
- Debbie Myer, custodian at West Marion Elementary;
- Ann Stovall, cafeteria worker at West Marion High School;
- William Rex Allen, who is retiring in February;
- Jameka Brown, early childhood coordinator of Save the Children program at East Marion Elementary;
- Clinton Livingston, engineering and robotics instructor at the Carl Loftin Center;
- Joe Harvey, director of maintenance/transportation.
Approvals were received for the following to be hired:
- Donna Sinclair, as a teacher for 93 days for the 2019-2020 school year at East Marion Elementary for third grade Science and Social Studies;
- Mary Margaret Mattingly, kindergarten teacher for East Marion;
- Rhonda Polk, graduation coach for West Marion High School;
- James Anderson, janitorial position at West Marion High School;
- Corey Thompson, in-school suspension teacher at West Marion High School;
- Robert Lee Cook, custodian at West Marion Elementary School;
- Susan Bedwell, teacher at West Marion Elementary School.
Sixteenth section lease amendments were approved to include annual rent increases:
- PRVO Inc. 9.61 acres in Section 16-3N-18W;
- Linda and Thelonius Oatis 13 acres in Section 16-3N-18W;
- N.C. Magee 6.13 acres in Section 16-3-18W;
- Mary Jane Graves 2 acres in Section 16-4N-18W;
- Francine Simon 5.87 acres in Section 16-3N-13E.
