A public hearing Monday will give people the chance to learn about the Marion County School District’s property taxes and 2019 budget.
The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. July 2 at its offices on Mississippi 13 North. The district is requesting the same amount as last year.
The Board also met Monday to close out fiscal year 2018 and make several personnel moves:
• Hired Shelbie A. Jones as an elementary teacher at East Marion.
• Accepted the resignation of Ryan Loftin, science teacher and assistant baseball coach at West Marion High.
• Approved a copier lease with Owens Business Machines.
• Approved a purchase from TE21 for assessments to be used as screeners, benchmarks for Biology I, Algebra I, English II and U.S. history for $9,053 to be paid through local funds.
• Approved a diesel and gas bid from Buffalo Services, Inc.
• Approved of single source purchase from Curriculum Associates for the iReady program for $94,221 to be paid through local funds.
• Approved purchase from Kirkland Group for TKG CD3 pacing documents for $9,000 to be paid through local funds.
• Approved purchase from Kirkland Group (Linkit) for ELA, Math, and Science for $12,765 to be paid through local funds.
• Approved state-approved purchase from School Book Supply Company of Mississippi for textbooks for Science, ELA, and Advanced Placement Courses for $112,579 to be paid through local funds. It also bought supplemental materials for AP courses for $17,795 and the Superkids Reading Program for $15,036.
• Approved single source purchase from Pearson for a writing skills development program, Write-to-Learn, for $3,890 to be paid through local funds.
• Approved purchase from Barnes and Noble for ACT and AP preparation books for $8,195 to be paid through local funds.
• Approved purchase from IMPACT Education Group LLC for five days of consultation services to provide science support to West Marion High for $6,500 to be paid through federal funds.
• Approved purchase from South Mississippi Writing Project for professional development on writing for $6,350 to be paid through federal funds.
• Approved accepting Griffin Architecture to do renovations for the district.
