The Marion County School Board held its meeting Monday night. While the meeting was short, a lot was approved.
The board approved the athletic schedules for East Marion Junior High football, East Marion High football, East Marion volleyball, West Marion Junior High football, West Marion High football, West Marion Junior High basketball, West Marion basketball and West Marion volleyball.
Out-of-state field trips approved included East Marion students who scored advanced on state exams to travel to Blue Bayou Water Park in Baton Rouge, La., on Sept. 2 and West Marion High School Band and Show Choir to travel to Orlando, Fla., to participate in Disney’s Performing Arts Workshop March 13 through March 17, 2020.
Regarding personnel matters, the resignation of Roshunda Akins of East Marion Elementary was approved. Upon recommendation the following personnel were hired:
• Tiffany Yawn, Marion County School District, child nutrition cafeteria worker;
• Elizabeth Allen, East Marion Elementary, teacher assistant;
• Katie Sauls, East Marion Elementary, SPED assistant;
• Lela Cox, East Marion Elementary, academic support coordinator;
• Scott Roberts, East Marion High, teacher;
• Kaitlyn Stafford, East Marion High, teacher;
• Melissa Whitehead, East Marion High, SPED teacher;
• Nicholas Roberts, East Marion High, science teacher;
• Jimmy Barr, East Marion High ISS assistant and assistant football coach;
• Kim Cruthrids, West Marion High, counselor;
• Kade Lear-Raymond, Carl Loftin Career and Technology Center, CTE automotive instructor.
The board also approved nearly 40 fundraisers between all the schools.
The board will hold special meetings on July 20 and July 30, both at 6 p.m.
