The coronavirus has taken a deadly toll in Marion County, claiming four lives as of press-time.
Marion County’s first death was reported by the Mississippi Department of Health on April 19. As the week continued by Thursday the number had risen to four.
The first one was a patient at The Grove nursing home and had been tested, but the results had not come back with a definitive result. Two of the COVID-19 deaths were at Forrest General Hospital and one was at home, according to Marion County Coroner Jessie Graham.
The total number of cases in Marion County increased to 53 as of press-time on Thursday. Another change in the numbers is the amount of cases involved in long-term care facilities. On Tuesday, only one case was reported. Wednesday the number jumped to 12 and remained at 12 as of press-time.
Statewide, the total number of cases has risen to over 5,000 cases to 5,153 cases.
Currently Marion General Hospital has no patients with COVID-19, while Forrest General Hospital has 30 patients with 11 in the ICU.
