The state Crime Lab has officially identified the body found in a burning car in Kokomo on Feb. 22 on Knoxo Road.
Through DNA analysis the victim has been confirmed to be Martin Shane Lewis of Kokomo, according to Marion County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Pete Williams and Coroner Norma Williamson.
“We’re not releasing cause of death yet because it is an ongoing investigation, but we were able to identify it as (Lewis),” Williams said.
Henry Sammy Foil, 33, is being held in the Marion County Jail with a $1,025,000 bond and is charged with murder, arson, tampering with evidence and contempt of court. His father, Bradley N. Foil, 55, was released on bond after being charged with hindering prosecution.
Lewis was a lifelong Kokomo resident and worked in the oilfield for 10 years, according to his obituary. He also was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and “He would do anything to help anyone in need and will be remembered for his big heart.” His funeral was at Kokomo Baptist Church Friday.
His father, William, said on Facebook Tuesday that he appreciates all of the support the community has shown.
“First our family would like to thank everyone for your prayers, love, support, thoughts, comments, phone calls, text, and food and supplies. We are heartbroken and sad to say, at noon I received the dreadful news that the (DNA) on Shane Lewis came back as positive identification… We love y’all and please continue to keep us in your prayers,” he wrote.
