A drive titled “Operation Trench Foot” may help police officers and other first responders suffering as they battle the effects of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
The National Alliance for Law Enforcement Support hopes to provide socks for those dealing with the flooding.
“Hours and hours in nasty wet conditions wreak havoc on one’s feet,” Sherie Cooper, NALES coordinator for Mississippi said. “NALES has launched ‘Operation Trench Foot’ to help out.”
Cooper and NALES members across the country are partnering to help those in need in Texas.
“We will continue doing it as long as it is needed,” Cooper said. “For our first shipment, we’re aiming for 100 pairs of socks. We’re asking for the help of any service group or church youth group or anyone who wants to participate.”
Cooper and NALES are collecting new socks in any size and color, men’s or women’s. The group is also accepting monetary contributions to help with purchase of socks for officers.
“All donations can be taken to the Columbia Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office or Cooper’s Towing and Recovery,” she said. “Arrangements can be made for pickup or you can mail checks or items to the Mississippi Auxiliary Chapter of NALES.”
To send donations, send them to the Mississippi Auxiliary Chapter of NALES, 5995 Hwy. 35N. Columbia, MS, 39429.
Cooper said she is working to ensure the items are delivered to those in need.
“We have access to certain individuals who are in contact with the various police departments in Texas,” she said. “We hope to make a difference for these people who are working long hours in flooded conditions.”
NALES is dedicated to providing resources and emotional support to law enforcement officers and their families, and serving as a positive voice for law enforcement in the community.
