John Godwin appearing at Emmanuel Baptist Saturday
A cast member from the hit show “Duck Dynasty” will be speaking Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Columbia.
John Godwin, who has worked since 2002 for the Robertson family that stars in the TV series, will be sharing his story at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Lloyd Thompson, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist, said the congregation is working to think outside its walls and introduce new people to its members. He said they made 200 tickets and it looks like every one of them is going to be gone.
The Crowe Family gospel group will be singing before Godwin speaks, and afterwards a door prize will be given away for a $20,000 scholarship to William Carey University.
Duck Dynasty aired from 2012 to 2017 on A&E and was a huge hit, especially in the South, due to its quirky, country characters in a family-owned duck call business and its support of traditional family and Christian values.
Godwin, 57, has a thick goatee, unlike the full beard of the other cast members, and serves as shipping manager for the Duck Commander company. According to a bio on a Duck Dynasty website, he shares his story of how he started running with the wrong crowd and drinking too much before his wife convinced him to start going back to church. Godwin attends the White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, La., where Phil and Alan Robertson are elders, the bio said.
