Jeff and Judy Easterling of Morgantown were awarded the Yard of the Month for August.
Their home, situated on Mississippi 587, features flowers and plants of all assortments from impatiens to hibiscus to banana trees. Judy Easterling makes it a point to have plants blooming all year long. Her love of plants she said came from her mother.
Judy Easterling said it is therapy for her to work outside. She said it is her job to mow the yard and it is her husband’s, Jeff’s job to repair the mowers. With several acres, she said she works on the yard for two hours at a time.
They own the land on the opposite side of the road as well. Judy Easterling said she made a little park on the other side of the road, something quiet to allow her to meditate.
She said she knows one day it will be too much for them to keep up, but for now it is a place she loves.
The Marion County Development Partnership and Keep Marion County Beautiful sponsors the Yard of the Month program. Brenda Pounds, representative of Keep Marion County Beautiful, said people can call and recommend a yard. Each month members of the different garden clubs and Keep Marion County Beautiful ride throughout the county and look at the recommended yards. Pounds said if a yard is not chosen one month, it is still on the list to be viewed.
