The Jefferson Middle School teacher who made a controversial social media post before state testing began has resigned.
The Columbia school board accepted D’Leasha Abram Arnold’s resignation on June 27, according to a list of personnel actions taken at that meeting.
She had posted on Facebook in the spring, “State testing begins this morning…Pray for my kids & pray my knee doesn't go out while I'm monitoring…The kids know, if I pass out…pull my dress down & no phones…and the boys know I bet not open my eyes to their lips puckered up trying to give me mouth to mouth nor their hands gripping my breasts." She then posted smiley face emojis and said "JMS WE HAVE THIS" followed by praying hand emojis.
The post was later deleted.
Arnold was the girls and boys basketball coach at Jefferson and had taught there for several years.
Superintendent Jason Harris said they wish her well in her future endeavors.
During the meeting the school board also received the resignations of teachers Beth Boutwell and Melanie Slocum.
The Board also approved the hiring of Timothy Ryan Loftin, seventh-grade science teacher and assistant baseball coach, ninth-grade baseball coach and assistant middle school football coach. Loftin had been a coach and teacher at West Marion.
Derek Jones, district network specialist, was also hired effective July 11 and Milton Pittman was hired as a maintenance worker effective June 27.
Several coaching assignments and changes were also approved including Lindsay Ball as middle school girls basketball coach and assistant middle school boys basketball coach; Brandon Livingston as assistant middle school track coach; Brandon Thompson as assistant middle school football and track coach and Jay Hughes as assistant high school track coach, assistant middle school track coach, high school football assistant coach, middle school boys basketball coach and middle school assistant girls basketball coach.
