In a world that appears to be spiraling out of control, according to some people, now may be a good time to realign one’s focus. Well-known evangelist Alex McFarland will be coming to Columbia to discuss how today’s events align with biblical truths.
McFarland is a Christian author and speaker. He has spoken on American Family Radio, frequently speaks on Fox News and was the President of the Southern Evangelical Seminary and College.
“A conference on Biblical Answers for Today’s Questions” will be held Sept. 10 through Sept. 12. The first part will be Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Columbia Expo Center. Later that evening at Second Street Bean will be Fifth Quarter for the youth to come to. On Sept. 11 at 9:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, McFarland will be speaking, and also at the church will be an event for youth to attend at 2 p.m. The 7 p.m. evening session will be held at the Columbia Expo Center and will conclude on Sept. 12 at Calvary Baptist with McFarland speaking at three different times, 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5 p.m.
McFarland said Monday in a phone interview he was looking forward to coming to Columbia.
He said it is important for people to understand biblical truth.
“There is a gap in the knowledge of how this country was founded on biblical values and how that has been the secret to our strength and our achievements as a nation and our stability. A lot of people, nowadays, do not realize the absolutely integral role that Christianity played in its founding,” McFarland said.
He also said there is a large generation of about 25 to 30 years of young people who have grown up not raised in the church and taught the Gospel. There is an exploding number of young adults who no longer believe in God.
For 200 years, the rate of atheism has remained around 4%. Among the millennials and younger, it is almost 70% to 80% who say either they don’t believe in God or question their belief in God.
One of the words of the day has become tolerance and the urge to be more tolerant towards others. McFarland said it once meant everyone was entitled to believe what they wanted, but it did not mean people had to share the same view. It has transitioned into more of believe what some people say or you are the enemy.
A third reason McFarland said was the current swing towards Marxism makes the conference necessary. Everything known and loved about the country stands in danger, he said.
