RAYMOND — Four Marion County residents were among the more than 1,200 graduates of Hinds Community College during its spring commencement ceremonies.
The local graduates included:
• Cory Livingston of Columbia;
• Quanterris Newby of Columbia;
• Lindsey Gibson of Foxworth; and
• Keirra Meadious of Foxworth.
Throughout five different ceremonies on May 15, May 16 and May 18, Hinds awarded a total of 1,706 credentials to 1,254 graduates, with some graduates receiving more than one credential.
Of the spring graduates, 260 achieved cum laude (3.2 to 3.59 GPA), 197 achieved magna cum laude (3.6 to 3.99 GPA) and 126 achieved summa cum laude (4.0 GPA).
The speakers included retiring employees Libby Mahaffey on May 15 and Theresa Hamilton on May 16. Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy, currently an attorney in the Jackson metro area, spoke on May 18.
As Mississippi's largest community college, Hinds Community College has academic programs of study for university transfer and career and technical programs teaching job-ready skills. It has six locations in central Mississippi with12,000 students.
