A Foxworth man got the maximum sentence Friday as a habitual offender after being convicted for his fourth DUI and a drug charge.
Terry Dustin Baughman, 38, received 13 years to serve Friday from Circuit Judge Tony Mozingo, according to a news release from District Attorney Hal Kittrell.
The news release said Baughman was convicted Wednesday at trial of felony driving under the influence (fourth or subsequent offense) and possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone).
He got the maximum sentence for each charge: 10 years for DUI and three years on the drug possession. The sentences run consecutively, and he’ll serve them day-for-day as a habitual offender.
“We are pleased with the conviction and sentence in this case. There is no doubt that our community is safer with Terry Baughman off of the road,” Kittrell said in a statement. “Our office will continue to be committed to prosecuting those that choose to drive under the influence.”
Baughman has three previous felony convictions in Mississippi, including two felony DUIs. The case was investigated by the Columbia Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Kim Harlin and James Johnson.
