After a successful cruise-in and fireworks display last July 4, Main Street Manager Nik Ingram is hopeful that this year’s Freedom Fest can be even bigger and better.
Ingram spoke with the Columbia Board of Aldermen at its March 6 meeting and discussed plans for the July 7 event.
A barbecue cook-off will be held with proceeds to benefit the fire department.
Also, Ingram said the Columbia Gearheads would be hosting the cruise-in, an event that brought more than 150 classic vehicles to town last summer. There will be children’s activities and they’re working on live music, he said.
“We may do something with a live band by the courthouse. We hope that it can grow so that in a few years we can get nationally acclaimed artists here,” Ingram said. “We’d love to have music and fireworks – the whole nine yards.”
The event will begin at 10 a.m. on July 7 and continue through the fireworks at dark. Ingram said they’re hoping to double the fireworks display.
“I’m excited,” he said. “I think this can grow to be a premier event in Columbia.”
