The Marion County Republican Party and the Marion County Republican Women are teaming up to present a “Meet the Candidate” forum.
The event is scheduled for June 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the large pavilion at the Columbia Water Park. Candidates from the state offices to the constables will all be given time to speak. In addition each candidate may also have a booth set up.
“We want it that everyone can come out and meet the candidates all at one time instead of having to meet them here and there,” Kay Patterson, president of the Marion County Republican Party, said.
At the state level she has had confirmation of all but two candidates to be there.
The Republican primary is coming up Aug. 6 with potential runoffs on Aug. 27. The general election follows on Nov. 5. The vast majority of the candidates on the ballot for Marion County offices – 40 out of 47 – are Republicans. Patterson said that if the event is successful, they may look to do it again in four years for the next countywide election.
