As cases of the coronavirus have slowly been rising again, Gov. Tate Reeves issued a new executive order on Monday.
While Reeves eased up the mandate for masks throughout the state on Sept. 30, he has reissued mask mandates for nine counties, including Lamar and Forrest counties. The other counties include Chickasaw, Claiborne, DeSoto, Itawamba, Jackson, Lee and Neshoba.
In addition, Reeves said there must be at least 10% available capacity for the treatment of coronavirus patients in hospitals.
“We’re seeing a lot more spread of COVID-19 across the nation and the globe. It’s everywhere. And Mississippi has been no exception. We’ve seen an increase in cases, and our hospitals are tight with other types of patients,” Reeves said Monday at a press briefing.
Across the state there have been a total of 111,322 cases since March with 3,202 deaths, including 730 new cases on Tuesday and 31 deaths. In Marion County there have been a total of 929 cases with 42 deaths.
For the week of Oct. 5 through 9, there were no new cases reported from East Marion schools and West Marion Primary. There was no information available on the other schools.
The new executive order began on Wednesday and continues until Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. when the Safe Recovery executive order expires.
