One of Marion County’s biggest events is returning this year: The Marion County Historical Society Heritage Festival.
The annual event had taken place for 54 years consecutively until last year, which would have been the 55th annual event, but it had to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Lori Watts, president of the historical society, said this year the festival is coming back, and they are already taking applications from vendors.
The festival is scheduled for Oct. 2 at Columbia City Park. The event is the biggest fundraiser the historical society has every year. All sorts of arts, crafts, baked goods and anything most people can imagine are usually readily available, not to mention the various food options.
The event is held regardless of rain or shine.
Vendors may pick up applications at the Marion County Archives & Museum on Second Street and the Marion County Historical Society’s Facebook page.
Also happening soon is the Marion County Development Partnership, Main Street Columbia, TMH and The City of Columbia’s Bluff Park BBQ next Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. It is a community-wide barbecue that is free to the public. Individuals are asked to bring lawn chairs, and will be able to cook some food and enjoy an evening of music on the bluff by River City Little Big Band.
The end of the evening will conclude with a firework show.
