As Christmas is coming into full swing in Marion County, Improve Baptist Church is all about making sure everyone understands the meaning of the holiday through its annual Scenes of Christ.
The production is a presentation of the gospel set out in 13 vignettes, beginning with the birth of Jesus and ending with His ascension. The program will be today and Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. each night with the last tour beginning at 8 p.m.
“The goal is to project the life of Christ to everyone,” Pastor Darel Daniels said.
The walking tour takes guests through the various scenes, some of which are narrated and others are spoken by the actors. Golf carts are available for those who are unable to do the walking tour.
Improve has been doing Scenes of Christ for several years, and most years the church changes and updates the scenes. It takes months of planning and recruiting enough people to portray the characters.
Daniels said it requires more than 150 people and volunteers to put on a production like this because every scene is live action. He said not only is its members of his church but other churches, too.
Daniels estimates between 1,200 to 1,500 people attend each year. The most to attend is 2,500. Daniels said they once had 1,800 visitors come through in one night.
He said it is all about Jesus and for people to know who Jesus really is.
There is no cost to attend, and rain or shine the event will still take place. The church is at 2979 Mississippi 44.
