At the Marion County Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Thursday, Sheriff Berkley Hall announced an inmate tested positive Wednesday for the coronavirus and they are awaiting the results for two other inmates.
The inmates in question have been all in one area on the state side of the Marion County Correctional Facility. For weeks, the guards have been doing extra cleaning and documenting all of the cleaning, Hall said.
Marion County is up to 80 cases as of Thursday, and five are at Marion General Hospital with two in the ICU.
At the daily press briefing Thursday, Gov. Tate Reeves announced an agreement had been reached with the Legislature on moving forward with distribution of $1.25 billion received from the CARES Act. Reeves, along with Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and House Speaker Philip Gunn, jointly announced $100 million is for small businesses. Gunn said plans on how that money will be distributed should be ready by early next week.
