As Marion County rolls into the holidays, the Kiwanis Club of Columbia has set the date for the annual Christmas Parade.
This year the parade will fall on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Applications for the parade are available at Citizens Bank on U.S. 98, Berry Law Firm, the Columbia-Marion County Library and The Columbian-Progress.
Christmas is the overall theme of the parade but being the parade is on National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, there is a special category for a patriotic theme.
This year the parade route will be different. The line-up will be on RA Johnson Drive. The route will be Eagle Day Avenue to Broad Street to Main Street and end on Mayson Avenue. Bands and walking groups will meet up to be staged at the Medicaid office on Eagle Day Avenue.
Another change this year is the grand marshal: the Kiwanis club is accepting nominations until Nov. 19 at Berry Law Firm. Nomination forms stating who you nominate and why are available at the same places the applications are.
On Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m. there will be a mandatory meeting in the Garden Room at the Magnolia Grille for at least a representative of each participant in the parade.
Following the Christmas parade will be the lighting of downtown Columbia. Experience Columbia LLC has been contracted by the city to once again to dazzle everyone with the extraordinary light show that was put on last year.
