For 33 years Tim Magee, president of Columbia’s Trustmark National Bank, has had an important place in banking and the city’s civic life.
Friday Magee, surrounded by a large group friends and family, celebrated his retirement. The Marion County native has spent the last 22 years at Trustmark and has been president since 2003. Previously he worked at First Federal Bank.
“I have enjoyed every minute of it,” he said.
When asked what he was going to do now, he jokingly responded he had a long honey-do list from his wife.
“I have some land in Walthall County, I am going to clean it up some and maybe go fishing,” he said.
His past and present co-workers offered praise for Magee. “He’s a great guy, person to work with,” Trustmark Regional President Charlie Lewis said. Retiree Nancy Thomas said, “Tim was the greatest boss ever to work for.” Employee Michelle Easterling said, “He is the most laid-back person. He could be a comedian; he is great to work for.”
In March he had a 10-and-half-hour surgery for colon cancer, which was successful. Magee did not have to have chemotherapy and radiation. But his wife, Carrie, said it was time for him for stay home a little bit. Magee says he feels great. In fact he’s ready to get on his motorcycle.
John Cooper, who has been with Trustmark for five years in Hattiesburg, will be taking Magee’s place as the Columbia president.
