A Tuesday morning traffic stop ended in a pursuit, crash and foot chase, according to Marion County Sheriff’s Office officials.
Deputies were out with a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse on Airport Road when a driver, identified as Clarence Ray Peters of Columbia, was found not to have a valid driver’s license.
“While I was issuing a citation, Peters sped off and a pursuit ensued,” Capt. Pete Williams said.
Peters sped off from the stop and led deputies on a chase onto Mississippi 44 and then onto Acey Jackson Lane, where he lost control and crashed. Peters exited the car through an open window and then fled on foot into a wooded area where he was taken into custody.
Once in custody, Peters was charged with felony fleeing law enforcement, DUI other substance, reckless driving, misdemeanor possession, driving with no license, no insurance and disregarding a traffic device.
His bond was set Tuesday at $5,000.
