The Lottery Corporation said acceptance letters will continue to be mailed as more retailers are approved.
Retailers must provide information in a package and pass background, financial, tax and credit checks, the Lottery Corporation said in a news release.
Approved retailers are listed on www.mslotteryhome.com and will be updated as more retailers are approved.
After more than two decades of efforts to start a lottery were squashed by a combination of religious and casino interests, the Legislature approved allowing that form of gambling during a 2018 special session. The Legislature formed the Lottery Corporation to run the lottery, and it is overseen by a five-member board appointed by the governor.
Initial projections showed that the state hopes to make $80 million in profits annually from the lottery once it is fully going, and the proceeds will go toward roads and bridges for the first decade. After that, lottery profits would be deposited into the state’s general fund.
