The Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded in a social media post to address rumors of child abductions in Foxworth and Columbia Wednesday night.
The post said, “We have received several calls concerning a Facebook post about people attempted to abduct children in the Foxworth and Columbia area. This agency has not had any reports of these incidents or any information to lead us to believe this has happened. If you do have information, then please contact us. If not, we would ask that we not spread terror on rumors. Thank you.”
Chief deputy Jamie Singley said on Thursday that the department has not received any calls about any attempted abductions. Singley said they have received calls asking if the rumor was true. He added there have been calls about suspicious people, which are being investigated.
Singley further said the department has received no intelligence of any child abduction threat or activity in the area. However, if anyone sees anything suspicious he encourages people to please contact the sheriff’s office.
