How do you make family genealogy more fun? Add a Southern twist to your detective work.
The Columbia Marion County Public Library will be hosting two podcasters who do just that on their show called ““The Mysteries of Family Histories.”
Vicki Baylis and Sherri Marengo will be at the library at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 as they discuss their podcast and heritage photo albums. Baylis will also sign copies of her books, which include “Pea Patches and Butterbean Fields.”
The whimsical titles of their podcast episodes include things like “Queen of the Trailer Park and the Viking Influence.”
A description of the podcast on their Facebook page reads, “Once upon a time there was man whose last name was carried by two wives and many children- and yet, he remained a mystery to the whole family. And what really happened to the cotton baron who never returned from the market? Is there a story like this in YOUR family? Did your tree have some really wild branches with unidentified people hanging on them? Join veteran radio DJ Sherri Marengo & author Vicki Baylis as they use Southern charm to get answers to mysterious family stories.”
Also, the library will be hosting another Family Nerf War from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22. Participants should bring their own Elite dart-style Nerf weapon. The library will provide ammunition and snacks.
“Please join us these days for some fun and knowledge,” Library Branch Director Mona Swayze said.
