A Columbia man was arrested Monday afternoon and faces several charges in connection with alleged drug sales in the city.
The Columbia Police Department arrested Martel Porter, 34, at his residence on Barnes Street on the city’s northwest side.
“We had been getting information on him for a while,” Chief Mike Cooper said. “Several of our officers came out on their own time to complete this investigation and serve the warrants.”
Porter was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Cooper said officers seized a variety of items from the home.
“We found a quantity of ecstasy and marijuana,” he said. “We seized a car and a large amount of cash.”
Cooper said several officers worked the case in order to make the arrest.
“I want to give credit to Sgt. Davy Bass, Lt. Marcus Ardis, Capt. Johnny Barnes, Lt. Nate Cook and officer Jeremy Sellers,” he said. “They did the investigation, got the warrants and took care of it.”
Cooper said the CPD is working to keep drugs off the streets of Columbia. “It’s something we’re going to continue to crack down on.”
Porter made his initial appearance in Marion County Justice Court Tuesday before Judge Gwen Broom, who set bond at $50,000, $25,000 on each charge.
