The date of the annual Kiwanis Club of Columbia Christmas Parade has changed and will roll at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The date was shifted from Monday for a variety of reasons, including downtown traffic on the third of the month and availability of participants on a Monday.
“A lot of folks were concerned about a Monday parade. I’m really happy that Kiwanis worked with us on that,” Mayor Justin McKenzie said during Tuesday’s aldermen meeting.
Tentative plans have the lighting of downtown and the Marion County Courthouse slated for that evening.
Parade registration forms are available at the library or the U.S. 98 branch of Citizens Bank. Forms must be turned in no later than Nov. 27.
This year’s theme is simple.
“It’s Christmas and what it means to them and how they celebrate,” Kiwanis President Jeni Southerland said. “We want the entries to reflect the Christmas spirit. We are looking forward to a great turnout.”
