The Economic Assistance Office of the Mississippi Department of Human Services has moved to a new location.
Clients will now be able to do business at the office, located at 1111 U.S. 98 Bypass, Suite B.
“We moved Monday,” Rhonda Bradley, county director, said. “We started moving things Friday and the computers and phone lines went live Monday. We were formerly in the building with Child Protective Services at 511 S. Main St. They will remain there. The services we do here consist of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families).”
Bradley said the new location allows easier access for clients.
“We have plenty of parking here,” she said. “Our space is about the same. CPS is taking over our former space in the other building.”
Earlier this year, the Marion County Board of Supervisors searched extensively to find a home for the Economic Assistance Office. Several locations were discussed, but many were considered too costly to renovate. Earlier this summer, the Board approved a lease of the building and it was modified for the offices.
“We just wanted to make people aware that we had moved,” Bradley said. “We’ve been informing them and the people at CPS have been directing them our way. The phone number is still the same. We can be reached at (601) 736-6383.”
Bradley said the new offices have already been busy.
“We had people in here the first day,” she said. “I think this location is actually easier to get to being on U.S. 98.
It’s also convenient because it is attached to the MDES (Mississippi Department of Employment Security) office.”
