The Marion County real and personal property assessment values have gone down in 2019.
The drop in value is by more than $294,000.
The assessments are available to view until Aug. 7.
In years past the rolls have been printed out and placed in the Marion County Board of Supervisors’ board room. This year the rolls are on CDs. They can be viewed at the Marion County Courthouse in the Chancery Clerk’s office.
The board will be in session on Wednesday, Aug. 7, specifically for the purpose of hearing any objections to the assessments. Objections may also be made in writing and filed with the Chancery Clerk on or before Aug. 7, according to the public notice that ran in The Columbian-Progress on July 25. The board cannot make any changes to the assessment, however they can make a recommendation to Tax Assessor Teresa Terrell.
The total real property for 2019 is more than 19,000, and personal property is 816. Ledd than 30 new homes were built this past year.
The assessments are determined through a formula that comes from the state level.
