Circuit Judge Tony Mozingo and Circuit Clerk Janette Nolan approached the Board of Supervisors Tuesday about funding improvements to the Marion County Courthouse.
Grand jury members first came to Nolan and were very concerned, she said.
“The carpet in the courtroom and the outside area of the second floor is in really bad shape,” Nolan said, starting off the list of repairs needed. She said the carpet needs to be replaced.
Another item she said was the holding room needs painting, and there are also issues in the tax office.
“We would like to request help during this budget planning time to add those things,” she said.
Mozingo added, “This is the crown jewel of Marion County, the courthouse. We are just asking basic maintenance. Whatever you can do to figure this in would be greatly appreciated.”
Nolan also approached the board about improvements needed to polling places at National Guard, Little Rock and Foxworth before the primary election Aug. 6.
Nolan said regarding National Guard, which is the second largest precinct in the county, the city is willing to move the fence on National Guard Road and make the entrance be from National Guard Road instead of Sumrall Road.
It would also install a parking pad so people would go straight into the polling room instead of having to deal with multiple entrances.
The precinct at Little Rock, Nolan said, needs repair to the concrete sidewalk and ramps to make it handicap accessible and also to the door thresholds.
County Engineer Jeff Dungan said the Foxworth precinct needs a handicap compliance landing and ramp and new thresholds.
The board authorized a motion to solicit bids to make the three polling precincts handicap accessible.
