An agreement to sell local radio stations WJDR and WCJU has been filed with the Federal Communications Commission and a public notice posted in The Columbian-Progress.
On Dec. 1, Tommy McDaniel entered into an agreement to sell 100 percent of the shares of Sunbelt Broadcasting Corp. and 95 percent of the shares of WCJU Inc. to Lee Airwaves LLC, according to the documents. The registered agent for the company is Timothy D. Lee of Hattiesburg.
Sunbelt Corp. is the owner and licensee of WJDR (FM) in Prentiss and WCJU (FM) in Prentiss. WCJU Inc. is the owner and licensee of WCJU (AM) in Columbia.
According to the documents, WCJU is the applicant for a construction permit for a new FM translator to rebroadcast station WCJU (AM) and serve Columbia.
The purchase price for the stations, according to the FCC paperwork, is $650,000. The FCC must give consent to the sale before the deal is finalized.
McDaniel respectfully declined comment on the proposed sale until the transaction is completed. He has been a part of Columbia-area radio for more than 50 years.
A copy of the sale application is available for public inspection during normal business hours at the station’s studio at 37 S. High School Ave. in Columbia.
It’s also available online at the Federal Communications Commission’s website, FCC.gov.
