Preventing hunger is the goal of a summer feeding program in the Columbia School District.
Patty Farmer, director of food services, said the district is part of the USDA Summer Food Service Program.
The program will operate at Columbia High School Monday through Friday beginning Monday, June 4 and ending on Friday, July 20. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The program will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 for Independence Day.
“I encourage parents to allow their children to participate in this summer feeding program,” Farmer said. “Children 18 years old and younger are welcome. Any person over the age of 18 will be charged for their meals: breakfast is $2.50 and lunch, $3.75.”
Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact Farmer at the Columbia School District offices at (601) 736-9927.
The Marion County School District is also participating in the USDA summer feeding. From May 30 to July 11, East Marion school will host breakfast from 8 to 9 and lunch from 11 to 12:30.
