Schools and other events are being cancelled as Marion County braces for an estimated half an inch of snow beginning this afternoon.
The Marion County and Columbia School Districts have both dismissed classes early.
The National Weather Service says a half an inch of snow is possible, but it may be just a dusting, Marion County Emergency Management Director Aaron Greer said.
A hard freeze warning is in effect through Thursday as temperatures are expected to dip to 16 degrees tonight.
Basketball games are cancelled for tonight, as has the scheduled American Legion meeting.
A warm up is predicted for Thursday with highs around 46.
Greer said they will monitor roads to see if anything ices over.
