As the nation continues to be shut down due to the coronavirus, Marion County is beginning to feel the pain.
With the recommendation of not attending social gatherings of 10 or more, some local businesses are taking a hit. Marion Theater, Broad Street Restaurant, Osaka Restaurant, Cato’s, It’s Fashion and C Spire in Columbia have all temporarily closed their doors.
As of Thursday morning 50 cases have been confirmed throughout the state, but no cases have been identified in Marion County. Word of the state’s first death, a man between 60 and 65 from Hancock County, came Thursday afternoon. Nationwide Thursday a total of 10,775 cases have been confirmed with 154 deaths.
The county breakdown of the cases is as follows: Bolivar-2, Coahoma-2, Copiah-2, DeSoto-2, Forrest-4, Hancock-2, Harrison-7, Hinds-6, Holmes-1, Jackson-2, Jones-1, Leflore-4, Madison-1, Monroe-1, Pearl River-7, Perry-1, Smith-1, Walthall-1, Wilkinson-1, Winston-1 and Yazoo-1.
