Anyone attempting to visit the Marion County Tax Collector/Assessor’s Office may need to call first to see if the offices are open after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
Tax Assessor/Collector Teresa Terrell informed Board of Supervisors President Tony Morgan and Board Attorney Andrew Foxworth on Thursday last weekabout the diagnosis, Morgan said. It was recommended for everyone to be tested as a precaution. Morgan said on Monday most of them have, but there were a couple that had not been tested as of Monday.
Morgan said Terrell advised him her goal was to spend Monday and Tuesday giving the offices a good cleaning with the intention to reopen on Wednesday.
A post on the office’s Facebook page Monday said, “We are closed temporarily due to a positive Covid 19 test in our office. We regret any inconvenience.” On the doors a sign read, “Office is temporarily closed to the public.”
According to the state Health Department, as long as the person with the confirmed cases is quarantined, the office may stay open. As a precaution, Terrell advised all employees to wear masks in addition to doing extra cleaning.
