A man and woman have been charged with two break-ins near Columbia after authorities found them near the scene of a burglary.
Capt. Pete Williams of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said the arrests happened Aug. 9 after deputies received a call of a suspicious vehicle on Old Mississippi 35 North. Doris Albea Bonilla, 28, and Stephen Allen Kitchens, 33, both of Columbia, face two counts of commercial burglary and possession of burglary tools for allegedly burgalizing residences at 1685 and 1697 Old 35.
Deputies Allen Allday and Tyler Creel responded to the area and arrested Bonilla, while a man ran into the woods near Airport Road. Additional deputies and Columbia police officers arrived to search. Williams said Creel apprehended Kitchens.
Kitchens also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, introducing contraband into a correctional facility and tampering with evidence. A judge set bond for Bonilla at $20,000 and Kitchens at $30,000.
